Beyond Visibility
Human vision perceives only a small fraction of the light spectrum. Beyond it lies an unseen world of signals, structures, and hidden forms. Inspired by visual systems that exist beyond ordinary human sight, I use UV-reactive pigments to create paintings that reveal a concealed dimension under ultraviolet light. While the visible image appears complete, hidden forms emerge through UV illumination, allowing the work to shift between multiple states of perception. Through this coexistence of visibility and invisibility, I explore the idea that reality is never singular. Every image, memory, and experience contains layers that depend upon how they are perceived. These works invite viewers to question the boundaries of perception: • What exists beyond the limits of our vision? • What remains unseen simply because we cannot perceive it? • How much of reality lies beyond what we believe to be true? By revealing what is usually hidden, I seek to remind us that the visible world is only one part of a larger reality. Light continues to carry stories beyond the reach of the human eye. Beyond what we see lies another reality.
A Journey of Reflection and Change A Sea of Three Suns is a series that explores the emotional journey of the human spirit through an imagined world illuminated by three symbolic suns. Created during a period of personal reflection, these works transform experiences of suffering, uncertainty, and hope into visual narratives. The three suns serve as metaphors for resilience, healing, and inner transformation, illuminating a landscape where despair and renewal coexist. Through vibrant color, layered forms, and symbolic imagery, the series reflects the universal human experience of struggle and recovery. While rooted in personal contemplation, the works invite viewers to discover their own memories, emotions, and possibilities for change. Ultimately, A Sea of Three Suns is not only about overcoming darkness, but about recognizing the light that continues to exist within it.
Embracing the Beauty of the Ordinary World Flowers and plants have long been a source of inspiration in my work. Their delicate forms, vibrant colors, and brief existence remind us of both the fragility and resilience of life. In this series, I explore the emotional and symbolic qualities of botanical subjects. Each bloom becomes more than a representation of nature; it becomes a vessel for memory, beauty, and transformation. Through careful attention to color, light, and atmosphere, I seek to reveal the quiet presence of living things and the enduring emotions they inspire. These works invite viewers to pause and reconnect with the beauty, wonder, and vitality found in the natural world.
The landscapes of Gangneung provide an enduring source of inspiration for my work. The changing light of the sea, the movement of clouds, and the quiet presence of forests shape both my observations and my imagination. My landscape paintings are not intended as literal records of place. Instead, they reflect emotional responses to nature and explore how memory, atmosphere, and perception become intertwined within a landscape. Through color, light, and form, I seek to create spaces where viewers can pause, reflect, and reconnect with the beauty of the natural world. The Nature of Gangneung Sources of Inspiration
